Day 1 Home City > Shanghai Fly overnight flight to Shanghai, China’s most populous and modern city. Day 2 Shanghai Arrive in Shanghai and transfer to the Galaxy Hotel for 3 nights. Day 3 Shanghai [B/L/SD] This morning you take a walking tour along the Bund, the chief shipping, trading and financial district during the colonial era. Many notable buildings lining the Bund were designed by the architectural firm Palmer and Turner, such as the Customs House, the former Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank and the Peace Hotel. Have a break at Bonomi Café, an Italian-style cafe inside one of the buildings. Spend the rest of the afternoon visiting the great Shanghai Museum. Tonight, enjoy a welcome Shanghainese dinner at Shanghai Uncle Restaurant. Then relax at the Peace Hotel Old Jazz Bar. Day 4 Shanghai [B/L] After a visit to the Yuyuan Garden, you arrive at the Jade Buddha Temple. It is one of the most active temples in China, and you can watch the monks serving a ceremony if it is in session and enjoy a vegetarian lunch prepared by the monks. Afterwards, explore Xintiandi, Shanghai’s hottest district for gourmet food and entertainment. Enjoy dinner and return to hotel on your own. Day 5 Shanghai > Wuzhen [B/L/D] Leave the hubbub of the metropolis as you visit Wuzhen, an ancient canal town and a hidden gem in fast changing China. Visit the traditional houses, a rice wine brewery and a bamboo weaving workshop. Have lunch at a restaurant on the bank of the Grand Canal and watch sampans and barges jostle for space. Continue to a Taoist shrine and its opera stage, where you enjoy a shadow puppet show. Overnight at the Midnight Hotel. Day 6 Wuzhen > Hangzhou [B/L] Morning at leisure for you to stroll through this 1200-year old town. With its black tiled, amber colour painted wooden houses, that contrast sharply with its white walls and gray flagging, the town brings to mind a Chinese ink and wash painting. After lunch, depart for Hangzhou and check in to Wanghu Hotel for 3 nights. Day 7 Hangzhou [B/L] It was Hangzhou whose wealth and splendor flabbergasted Marco Polo. Your visit begins exactly as he recommends, with a tour by gondola of the West Lake's elegant causeways and landscaped islands. Visit the idyllic Guozhuang Garden which offers the best views. Continue to the fascinating Huqingyutang Ancient Pharmacy, where traditional Chinese medicines are still dispensed today. Day 8 Hangzhou [B/L/D] Sample a bicycle or rickshaw ride along the lakeshore in the morning. Then you visit the region’s most famous tea village, and enjoy a tea tasting amidst the verdant fields. During the harvest season, you can pick your own leaves to be roasted and dried for you at the farmers’ mill. After lunch, visit Hangzhou Silk Market for shopping. Dinner at the famous “Louwailou” restaurant tasting the local specialities. Day 9 Hangzhou > Suzhou [B/L] This morning depart for Suzhou by train, a city regarded by the Chinese as ‘A Paradise on Earth’. Enjoy a cruise on the Grand Canal, the historic waterway that was for centuries the main commercial route and then visit the ancient city gate at Panmen. Overnight stay at the Suzhou Hotel. Day 10 Suzhou > Shanghai [B/L] In the morning, you visit some of Suzhou’s elegant private gardens, such as the Garden of the Master of the Nets, whose tall white perimeter walls might once have blushed at their owners’ hedonism. Continue to visit the Embroidery Institute and it’s museum to watch the silk-embroidering process; a craft that is still alive in this home town of silk. Return to Shanghai overnight. Day 11 Shanghai > Home City [B] Full day at leisure before the transfer to the airport for your flight home. Legend: B - Breakfast L - Lunch D - Dinner SD - Special Dinner
